Winter of Code is a platform where technology enthusiasts come together and contribute to tools that solve real-life problems. With the efforts of the whole Cyber Labs team, we are proud to announce WoC, the sixth Winter Open Source Hackathon of IIT(ISM) Dhanbad.

No Pre-requisites

Students do not need any pre-requisite knowledge or experience of any field they're interested in, to participate. It's the best opportunity to start from scratch and build your skills under the guidance of experienced individuals.

This contest is exclusively for the first year students currently studying in IIT (ISM), Dhanbad.

For successful completion of the contest:

Project completion/adequate progress is mandatory.

At Winter of Code, we strive to bring together developers to participate in the hackathon irrespective of their gender, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic background or sexual orientation. We usually try to keep things simple. Read FAQs to phase out any ambiguity.

Do I need to stay in campus during winters to participate in Winter of Code?

No. The competition will be online, so you can participate from anywhere.

Is this competition only for the first years?

Yes. The competition is exclusively for the first year students of IIT (ISM), Dhanbad.

I am confused where to start. Can I get some resources?

Sure. You can get resources related to all the three fields in the resources section of the website.

Is this a team event or an individual event?

Winter of Code is an individual event.

I have no prior experience in open source software development, can I still participate?

Of course! Open source software (OSS) is all about learning and developing. Everyone starts from the basics and eventually gets better at contributing quality code day by day. No matter whether you are a newbie or an experienced programmer/developer. Winter of Code has something for you, too.

Are there any fees for participating in the Winter of code?

No. All you have to do is register and get coding.

How does the application process work?

Participants have to first select any one of the suggested projects by Cyber Labs and submit a project proposal detailing what they plan to do. Once their proposal is selected, they can start working on their projects, under the guidance of their respective mentors.

What will I get after participating in Winter Of Code?

Knowledge and invaluable Experience. OSS is a vast field and with this contest, we hope to give you a taste of the GSoC (Google Summer of Code) and many other reputed competitions by giving you a glimpse of the environment. You will get to work on real-world problems in the competition, helping you learn new things and test your programming skills. Not to mention, exciting goodies await you.

I am not a student of IIT (ISM), Dhanbad. Can I participate?

Unfortunately, only the students of IIT (ISM), Dhanbad are eligible to participate in the Winter of Code 6.0.
